Default Maple Burl and quilted Claro Walnut brushes

I am picky about my wood stock. I may go through 50 boards before I find one that I like. I spend a lot of time looking for those exceptional pieces of wood. I happened upon some exceptional redwood burl, Maple burl and quilted Claro Walnut. I decided to cut a couple of blanks and turn a couple of shaving brushes. The figuring in this wood is simply exquisite, unfortunately that also means it is a little pricey, quality has a price.

These are fresh out of the stabilizing finish. The wood will develop more as the finish builds. The burling on the Maple is dense. The quilted 3-d shimmer of the walnut is mesmerizing. You can see the bright, almost backlight illuminated waves in the Walnut. Here is the kicker, these were two of the less figured pieces in the batch I got. These are going to make some insane brush handles.

Gorgeous timber. That walnut's very marble-like.
    Value for money IMHO.

I think the word you are looking for is chatoyance. Beautiful work, btw!

I may keep one for myself eventually, but they will be coming to an online vender in the near future. Custom shapes and sizes are also available you just have to ask.
