Friodur 8/8 in Ipe scales

I bought this Henckels Friodur Diamondback squarepoint 8/8 from the Shaving Shop. It came with really cheap black plastic scales. I had scrap Ipe wood from a decking project.Tung Oil finish, Brass and Mahogany wedge and microfasteners hold it all together. Although tough to hone, it took an absolute wicked edge.

Agreed! The angles really work. Could you add a shot showing it from the wedge end? Also, good job on finding a use for your leftover decking. I have never seen Ipe before but I read up on it and it sounds like a perfect wood for scales.

Thank You for the comments. Ipe: pronounced EEEPAY is a rot resistant very dense hardwood,allegedly from sustainable sources in the rain forest.Very durable and HARD. Other attempts were unsuccessful since the blanks were too thick and not flexible. I just couldn't live with that blade in cheap plastic scales

. The wedge is 2 slices of 3/32" brass with a honduran mahagony insert.Still a work in progress....I couldn't wait to get it together.

OK, now I see why you didn't show that view before but that will look great. I like the triple layer wedge. I guess I'd better start building a deck!
