Thread: Wade and Butcher 7/8 barber notch wedge in Olive

This belongs to another SRP member. I gave it a good sanding and run on the buffing wheels. There is still a wave here and there but it polished out pretty nice. The owner wanted a nice scale but nothing to flashy. We settled on a set of olive scales and I used a walnut wedge. It still needs honed but should be a darn good shaver.

Another fantastic mirror on that blade....

I love the olive wood. It's definitely my favorite wood for scales.
I gotta tell you though, that's not the way to strop on newspaper!

Oh man that looks good. Really really good. That is exactly the understated/unflashy look I wanted, except that the blade looks better than I thought was possible and it goes better with the scales than I thought it would, and the scales are even better looking than I thought they'd be.

That is lovely. I tend to like the original scales and a bit of patina on mine but if I ever got one that was too far gone I would love to transform it into something as nice as that.

One of the fun things about what he did is that the olive kind of captures the mellow feel of the understated old yellow horn scales - but really add a touch of class.

Very nice. Olive wood is one of my favourite light coloured woods; and I love English blades.... you did a very nice job!

Glad you all like it. I like the warm hue of the olive as well. I actually let them sit after I do the final sanding for a couple of weeks. That lets the wood oxidize and slightly darken before I seal them up with epoxy resin. I am going to work on honing it this morning and hopefully finish it up tonight and give it a shave test tomorrow.
