Default Joh. Engström - Sweden - Faux Tortoise

I don't know if I should laugh or cry but this one turned out to be a real beauty. Pictures don't even do it justice.

I used another faux/imitation tortoise print then the C.V. Heljestrand I posted before. Personally I'm very satisfied with the result of this imitation tortoise.

The blade is a Swedish Joh. Engstrom polished to a high mirror shine. As all Swedes these are excellent shavers. Smooth and sharp to the bone.

    Joh. Engtröm
    Scales: Faux Tortoise
    Grind : Full Hollow
Width : Heel side just below 5/8 - Toe side just above 5/8
Blade cutting edge : 2.65 inches
    Total weight - 1.3 oz
    Wedge : Faux Tortoise
    Washers/Spacers/Pins : Brass

That pattern makes lovely scales. Is it sold as faux tortoise? Lovely razor!

Yes, they are sold as imitation tortoise. You can find them in celluloid, acrylic, ... Those are acrylic. One word of advise for anyone working with acrylic or any of the plastics. If you don't have a serious dust removal machine or the likes you'll be eating and cleaning plastic dust for a lifetime. If you have a workshop that's one thing. If you plan on using this at home, be prepared for a long battle with the wife. as she will NOT clean it up. You're on your own.
As always be safe and wear a mask and goggles. Watch the fingers too!

I don't blame you. I have a hard time deciding which one is more beautiful. For me the final decision as to which tortoise to use would end up being the choice of blade and design. I will continue offering and using both for sure. There is another faux tortoise which I'm waiting to be available so as soon as I can get hold of a sample I'll make another set.
I do love wood but the acrylic choices are a change and it gives plenty of choices for the end user.

    Awesome job Max.

Personally I liked the other tortoise design better- this one looks more like particle board. But your quality and detail can't be argued from those pics!

Thx all for the comforting words.

Scales are somewhat like woman (or man ) . There are so many varieties as to please all kinds of different people.
It's all in the eye of the beholder. That's what counts in the end cause you'll never be able to please each and every individual.

We are all blessed to have a crowd of talented people on SRP each with their own talent and vision.
