I think the steel is more than adequate for razors. The big factors seem to be my heat treating and the geometry of the blades. I find the small smiling blades well suited to the way that I shave. The last two razors that I made from this spring are holding up well I am assuming that this one will also. The new forge and muffle combined with me becoming more in tune with the process seems to be paying off. I am learning.

    HA, not this time

When I was a bratty Cub Scout I yearned for one of those Eastwing hatchets with leather handle, now I have my own version.

See, now you'll never get the needle out of your arm. That's how it begins, "I want something like that...." And you're too cheap to buy one and you have tools so you start making things. Incurable, this disease of steel.

I'm sure there is someone near the Eastwing works wondering why they feel a disturbance in the force...

Really nice Charlie! Handle looks like an Estwing hammer! I love the shapes in the blade particularly.

That is really sharp looking. I really like how the steel tapers to a hourglass shape. I that just a nice aesthetic element or does it have some function (balance point or finger notch)? I can't wait to see what comes out of your shop next.

I believe you're making the coolest looking handmades out there. Kinda sucks, really. I've been doing this a lot longer, and you're blowing me out of the water. On the upside, you're giving me lots of ideas to rip off.

    Joe,

I have a couple of old wedges that you reground for me. I can tell you my grinding looks like it was done by a poorly trained monkey compared to your grinding. I am learning, but I am not there yet.

PS, I think that this is one of the coolest razors ever.

    and this

I will be honest. I very like your work at the steel. Cool shape at the blade.
With the "handle" I´m not so happy. Only my very personal taste, because I´m not a big fan from the japaneses shaped razors.

    Buddel,

I appreciate your comments. If everybody liked the same thing it would really suck and be boring, variety is good. There is nothing worse than the herd mentality. At the moment I am fascinated with using the non-folding razors. The only part that I do not like is figuring out how to store them. I really do not enjoy scale making it is my least favorite part of making razors.

The new has not worn off of my forge and anvil yet, I cannot wait to get home and hammer for a while in the evenings. I like to try new concepts and ideas and see how they work.

    Charlie
