Bill Ellis Acquisition
I can't say enough about this razor. I've studied it and studied it and can't find anything that's not absolutely perfect. The alternating leaf pattern is just insane and I can't imagine how this is done.
Thanks to forum member yboivin for selling this incredible shaver to me! Please note that Yves also has a beautiful Zowada for sale in the classifieds and that my transaction with him went very smoothly. Canada to North Carolina in 2 days. I have a Zowada nearly identical to the one he is selling and it is another truly fantastic razor.
6/8ths Stainless, Alternating Leaf pattern, Spalted Maple scales with cursive Ellis engraving.
Flawless shave quality and balance.

Very nice! He's a craftman, but a little out of my league right now!

That is my favorite razor of all time. How the heck do you get those leaf patterns like that?

The first problem is actually finding one for sale. Bill is not currently taking orders and is about a year backlogged I think.
And......these don't pop up used very often.
However, if you can find one used or manage to get on his waiting list, his price is actually very reasonable. IMO for this quality of craftsmanship and all that goes in to it, not to mention the quality of shave he could easily charge double what he asks for his razors and *still* have a waiting list.
Expensive yes.....depending on your point of view, but also a fantastic value for an heirloom quality piece of art that can actually be used and enjoyed daily.
Worth saving up for!
Thanks for the comment!
I have stared at the engraving for what seems like hours and can't, for the life, of me figure out how he does it. I have a basic understanding of the technique involved, but to actually accomplish such perfect engravings on such a small scale is insane!
Thanks!
Exactly how I felt when I first opened the box this razor arrived in. I was speechless for a good 10 minutes. The only thing that rivals this razors beauty and perfection in execution is the balance and actual shave quality. You can hear those whiskers popping, but you feel absolutely nada.......it just glides. It's like a Zen experience.....you become one with the razor.
Thank you!

Congrats. It is great to see genuine craftsmanship at work in the age of cheap mass production. Please keep showing her in the SOTD threads!

If I had a razor that beautiful I would be torn between using it everyday and putting it into a display case so it never got touched! Very nice indeed, the engraving is ridiculous!! It looks so perfectly done. Nice aquisition.

Absolutely stunning. I don't see how that could be filework. My guess is that it's an etch.

This is really an unfair combination-- Bill's stunning work combined with your great photography-- for those of us trying to avoid SRAD!
