Buddel Razor Nr. 3 is ready
After some time I yesterday finished my third selfmade razor. The steel is still 1.2842, this time hardened to 61 HRC. I also learned from my former mistakes and paid more attention not to overhead the blade after the hardening process. Lot of water, a very low speed at the belt grinder and new belts - I´m sure this time nothing went wrong.
The blade is on the widest point between 7/8 and 8/8. Monkey tail with file work.
The handle is form stabilizised and blue colored maple wood. The wedge is brass with blue vulcan fibre. Golden adjustable pins.
Its still a little bit tricky to hone, but not a analogy to my first razor. This time I reached a very sharp and smooth edge with the first try. Only the first part of the edge was a little bit tricky to hone, here I reached it in the third attempt. All in all not more then 2 hours from nothing to a HHT.
Today it gave me a very close and smooth shave. Mission accomplished.

Great Job! That is one of the nicest blade shapes I have seen, it looks like it would be nice to shave with.
The design and workmanship are flawless. I admire your work.

Thank you all.
@ mlangstr: Difficult to say. I dont looked allways at the watch and I worked on two blades simultaneously. But I will give you a raw gues:
1,5 hours to bring out the rough shape from the steel blank with drilling several holes, sawing and grinding
15 min. to drill the pivot hole and press the mark
2 hours for the hollow grind
1 hour filework
1 hours to bring it to the heat treating and talking with the owner
waiting a week of the hardened blade
2 hours finishing and buffing the hardened blade
3 hours cuting, sanding, drilling and assembling the handle, making the pins and wedge
2 hours honing and stropping
15 min. shaving
all in all approx. 12 - 13 hours
With better equipment you can probably save at some points some time. But this machines are mostly also very expensive. For the endprice you have to add the price for the material and commodities (drills, tappers, belts, oil, laqcker, glue, hardening costs, etc.). I think, so the prices for custom razors mostly are all in all not so high.
