Thumbs up Max the Razor Wizard

Here are three razors Max is sending my way.

The first is my Great Grandfather's razor purchased in a store that was in my home town just before the turn of the century as far as I can determine from reading. It is a 9/16ths Pequot made in Germany and had a broken scale. The original scales were wood grain and Max matched them well with Bocote. Before and after photos.

Second is a 6/8ths Le Grelot I picked up on ebay. The original white scales had been exposed to heat. Black Linen Micarta replacement scales. Before and after photos.

Third is a TI 6/8ths Super Gnome Extra. I just could not abide the oversize plastic crap scales TI uses on these fine razors. Cocabolo replacement scales.

I can't wait to get these back! Thanks Max!!

    Look great, as you'd expect!

Max, what are you using to finish that micarta? is that just sanded and polished or are you putting something over it?

Max is definitely the man when it comes to restoration. I have to say though of these three, the last one with the Cocobolo is incredible. The wood grain and patterns that occur in this wood makes for a dramatic appearance. Great Work!

    Tyler,

Sanding and polishing micarta is a pain. Not as bad as G10 but close.
Basically cutting the scales, sanding, polishing and trying to buff the hell out of it. The most important is to make sure all sandiing scratches are removed when going higher into the grits.

I've never put any finishing products over micarta, G10 or any of the synthetics.

Max that cocobolo is STUNNING! I have some hear that has nowhere near that kind of figure. please tell me you have more of that. forget that, no matter what I say do not let me talk myself/you out of the horn and into the cocobolo.

Overall I like the second one best though, the thumb notch in the blade matching up with the scales is art. Thanks for posting some good before pics as well.
