Shumate's 012
Restored with blade in place.
Blade was satin finished and the wood grain 'cell' scales have been buffed & polished.
Thin, full hollow so didn't chase blemishes too deeply to preserve steel integrity.
One day I'll remember the before 'pics'.
Not difficult to hone & smooth as silk on the skin. I'm a convert to U.S. steel.
One of the nicest shavers I've ever used.
Will list on eBay after Easter. Thanx for looking.Last edited by onimaru55; 04-05-2009 at 09:38 AM.

Nice work! Not sure how much i like the scales, but i guess if they're original it's better to leave them. I know what you mean about the US steel. I find it's ridiculously smooth!

Thanked: 13245Just had to go run to the Shave Den and make sure mine was where I left her
I also noticed the the wedge on mine was white instead of black....
Nice Job OZ on bringing one back, there is something very satisfiing about keeping them "Vintage"....
I swear Shumate's are the best kept shaving secret out there, if you like smaller lighter hollow grinds....

funny, cause we all make that same mistake . At first I thought I was the only one but when I saw that others had the same 'brain disorder hollow memory cells' I felt a big relief.
It's mostly because we get so excited (just like a kid) we just plain forget and start working on the razor. By the time most of the blemishes are gone and see the fantastic result we realize what a schmuck we've been by forgetting to take before pics.
Great job from down under! You also brought back a mirror polish on those scales.

Very nice work, it looks great. The blade finsh looks perfect to me. I like the surface of the coating, it looks leveled, flat and polished - very classy.

Thanx one & all.
Haven't done any restos lately till this one but I have a few more Yanqui razors I'm keen to resurrect.
@ Ben: 'Smooth like molasses in the winter time'
@ Glen: The vintage thing is a worry. Maybe we're border line 'collectors'
Nice there are still some sleepers out there.
@ Max: I think its the outcome a lot of us focus on rather than the problem, maybe a brain disorder as well
@ Charlie: I'm starting to get the hang of these Dremel flap wheels. (Apologies to Glen)The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
