    Default Joseph Allen& Sons

This was my first attempt with at a restoration. Looking back now I should have slowed down and taken photos of this razor when it was originally obtained. If nothing else but to keep a record of the progression. Oh well, I'll just have to keep that in mind in the future.Name: razors1 034.jpg

Looks great from your pics. Like the classic shaped scales.
Any kinda finish on the cocobolo.? I hear its oily enough to just buff it up.
    Should be a great shave.

No, there is no finish on the cocobolo, I just went through the motions with sandpaper then finished it off with some tripoli and a cotton cloth. From past experience on other projects with this particular type of exotic, it just seems to oily and dense to hold a finish, but if anybody out there has had any luck please let me know. Thanks

Very well done. I like the home made stand also. It would look just a tab better if the solder joints were cleaned up.

Cocabola doesn't need a finish and I am not aware of any that would take to the wood. An oil rub of your choice would look nice.

You did real nice work, especially for your first attempt. Have you had the pleasure of shaving with it yet?

I just got my first Joseph Allen & Sons in the mail today. It's an extra hollow ground that took an amazing edge. I have a feeling it may be my best shaver yet.

Here is a link if you are interested in it, but please let me know how yours shaves. I may just add a few more to my collection

I like the sounds of that. Self finishing scales.

I have the exact same blade to use as my first resto. I saw your title and decided to see what you did with the scales. They look great. I think mine is going to get teak. I just got the old scales off the other day and began polishing...I have a little more work to do.

Do let us know how it shaves. I bought mine to be a shaver, so I'd be interested to hear.

    Again, well done.
