Dovo with Black Walnut Scales
Hi all,
I bought a Dovo on EBay and it was a mess. The blade was mostly black and the scales were falling apart. (Got it cheap tho) Unfortunately I did not take any before pictures so you'll have to take my word for it.
This is my 3rd restore and my first that I think came out pretty good. I made the scales from Black Walnut and the wedge from Sycamore (Thanks for the wood Ed)
Here are a few pics of how it came out. Please let me know what you think.

Thanked: 13245Very, very, artistic lines....
But if you want any opinions on the functionality of the razor I would need more info on how you did it.... Hardware used, finish used, what you used to hold the spacer in there etc:etc:

Very cool shape
Fine Razors - Crown & Sword Razor von Ern mit Grenadil
I prefer it for the ERN "Crown & Sword" razors.
But without jokes, for your third restoration its a very good work. I needed much more time to come to this results

Cool design & nicely done.
I was sure you got the scales from BuddelThe white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

That is an eye-catching and nicely executed scale shape. Kinda looks like the blade is "riding the wave" in a couple of those shots, which I think is cool. I also like the grain of the walnut.
How is the "balance" and do you have any difficulty when you are stropping the razor?

One thing that stands out for me is that the tang is fully visible at the pivot point above the scales- it looks a little 'off' IMHO. The scales could be a little longer or wider somehow to give it a little more 'balance' to the eye- if that makes sense.

WTF?
if you throw it does it come back?
if so, are you man enough to catch it?

Thanked: 3795Honestly, I'm not sure about it. The razor is all straight lines. The scales are all curves, and in fact immediately remind me of a scimitar. I really can't decide if aesthetically they go together or not. Do they complement? Do they clash? I can't make up my mind.
Regardless, it was very well done and I truly admire the effort.
