Thread: Frederick Reynolds 6/8 Hollow - Tiger Acrylic

This one is a Frederick Reynolds Hollow Grind Barber's Notch, she has quite a smile the blade goes from 6/8 at the toe to 5/8 at the heel...

As you can see from the before pic it wasn't a pretty sight but the low speed buffer and 80-600 grit compounds cleaned her right up...





The polish was completed up the high speed buffer with Emory -Stainless polishes..
The finish is near perfect satin...

The scales are the same acrylic material that I used some months back on another FR, in fact that was what gave me the idea, this time though I reversed the cut for the blanks and got a completely different look from it... The shape came from the origianals... The pins are stacked brass and the wedge was cut form the excess of the blank for the scales.....













This one balances to the tang as you can see

I love your satin finish glen... I really do prefer it to a mirror finish.

Nice job! You shocked me with that second image though. I wasn't expecting to see that very traditional razor in bright yellow swirl scales.

The balance is really not all that hard to obtain, if you just pay attention to thickness and length when building the scales...

Great satin look! I think i'd have been tempted to salvage te original scales, but as i've only seen one side i may not know the whole story. Very nice, all the same!

The original scales were so dried out that they were literally flaking into pieces on all 4 of these Sheffield's I am working on right now....

Wait till you see the two Biguns coming up, I am waiting for some new acrylic to be delivered before I decide which direction to go with the last two....

I found some that in the pics looked like Bone, and just blindly ordered one that was marked Ivory because the pic showed zip...
I ordered more of the Red Lava as that seems to be the really popular one for older razors and another that is similar to it.... Can't wait for the package to get here

I love this material!!! I think you worked with it once before and I loved the result. too cool. looks like some exotic poisonous lizard or something. go ahead and move the escuthchoen or whatever it is called over from the other scales and it's complete. much more exciting than the original.
