Smith Brothers 6/8 Quarter Hollow Made by Wade Butcher
A Smith Brothers Cutlers of Boston 6/8 quarter hollow, with custom scales. These were manufactured for Smith by Wade and Butcher from 1860 untill around 1900,and are great shavers as to be expected. This one has been reworked, and rescaled.I have shaved with it ,and it is extra smooth.Best regards GAry

Thanks for sharing masterpieces with us in the Gallery.
What are the scales made with?
Excuse me while I go wipe the drool off my chin and keyboard.

They are made of polycarbonate resin with some kevlar fiber chopped up in them(for strength, and regidity). They are real easy to make once you get set up,but are a real mess ,and very itchy,so I only like to do them a few times a year, and then make a bunch, but then usually some one may have a special color recuest,so you may have to do a small batch. It doesnt itch too much when its cool,so I dont want to think of doing any right about now(was 98 today)Higher temps also make the resins set up faster,so you dont have much time to add embelishments
