7/8 DA regrind in Red Nara matching silvertip
This is the second of 3 DoubleArrow razors I purchased to play around with. I got a bit more extreme on this one. The blade was reground to a Spanish point. I added a thumb notch to the tang and reground the rest of the bottom of the tang. I recently purchased my first Chandler custom and loved the long monkey tail so I did a major tail regrind. I extended the tail and re-ground the the overall shape.
I wanted to do something with the spine on this one. It got a little work on the strip sander and then I got out the calipers. I marked the spine to keep the spacing even and then gave it a simple cross cut. I was going to extend it all the way to the tail, but this is a lot of work, so I stopped even with back of the blade. A lot of filing and sandpaper to polish the grooves but I think it turned out decent.
The entire thing got a high grit sanding and then a 3 compound pass on the buffing wheels to polish it out.
I had a set of figured bees wing Red Nara that I had been saving for a special razor. I decided to scale this guy in it. I really like this wood, it comes from the same tree as amboina burl and has a lot of the same traits. The deep red with darker graining and the curly figure are not captured at their full potential in the photos . The scales are finished in epoxy resin and the wedge is cocobolo, still unfinished. The bolo will redden as it oxidizes. Once it gets to where I like it, I will give it some finish to set the color. The pins are 1/16 brass rod with brass over stainless washers and the blade has brass thrust bearings.
I happen to have a silvertip made in the same wood, I think it makes a nice matched set.
The blade took a very good edge. Dont know why people do not get more of these. I have not had any issue putting an edge on them and it always takes a very sharp edge. I quite enjoy the shave I get from them. I would put the shave quality in-line with a Dovo and TI. I may make a few more for myself.
I haven't decided if I am going to list this one for sale yet. It is quite a nice razor and looks super. If someone PM's me and makes me an offer I may still part with it. I can always make another.Last edited by gssixgun; 08-14-2009 at 09:05 PM.

.....~closes mouth~. I'm a real sucker for burls and darker/reddish woods. That's a fantastic looking set. Great work with the DA.
