That's a really lovely job! I do like the Heljestrands. Especially with the thumbnotches!

Thanked: 735Scales look nice, and really pair well with that blade.
Critiques:
You definitely need to tighten up that wedge! Gaps such as that are too much for a fresh rescale.
What did you use for finish? They look a bit matte finish, and to really get the pink ivory to shine & get some deptch, you would probably want to use a high gloss finish.

Thanked: 125Thanks Seraphim, I know that the wedge looks loose, but its actually tight enough. Problem seems to be that I made the wedge too small. The pictures also exagerate it quite a bit... I'll see if it is possible to tighten it up a bit more though.
For the finish I used tung oil. Not high gloss, but I think the matte is ok for this particular piece. I'll be making some more scales this weekend and I'll coat them with some epoxy resin. We'll see how they turn out.

Beautiful job on those scales. I had the same gap when pinning the wedge so I just started gluing the wedge and pinning it with a spacer(bigger wedge with a hole through it for lineup) at the front til it's dry. After it's dry apply your finish of choice and pin up your razor. This is just my method I'm sure there are others.

Did you use pins or fasteners.? Curious about the dimple in the middle of the pins.
If its pure oil & not a "finish" sanding it to 2000 grit or higher will give you a furniture grade patina. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
