Blue Steel Special in one piece denim micarta
I just finished a (no name?) Blue Steel Special. Blade was decent where it layed in the scales forever, but outside of the scales area had significant rust and pitting. I sanded most of it out as far as I was comfortable with, then hit it with the buffers.
The shank has "Blue Steel Special" on one side with nothing on the other. I searched and seen there were a few makers of Blue Steel, but have no idea on this one. Not even a country of origin. It appears to be a full hollow ground. Size is 6/8. Any info is appreciated.
The original scales were cracked and appeared to be black plastic. The scales are a one piece formed denim micarta. I did not cut the slot. 5 layers on each side and wedge area is folded denim (4 times) a slug was put in between the sides while pressing, curing and shaping.
Sharpen and shave sometime today, I hope.Last edited by kilowattkid; 09-26-2009 at 03:24 PM. Reason: Oops, I forgot to clean the buffing junk out of the slot.
