Winchester 8527
Bought this on eBay a few months back but even then it wasn't cheap. Always wanted to try one so had to have it.
Was thinking of new scales but nothing wrong with the old ones that a light sand & polish couldn't fix so I kept the originals. I suppose the fact I restored the blade reduces its collectability but I wanted it authentic not rusty.
Before pics show rust & pitting, not excessive bar a coupla spots but the blade is so finely ground I had to keep sanding minimal. Mind you incredibly stiff, hard steel with little flex for such a thin blade.
It's a hair under 5/8 & nil hone wear but the edge was like swiss cheese in a couple of spots. Yes, I could see light thru the beveI after a couple of strokes on the 1k. Honed past these & ended up with sound steel & a knockout shaver with a small even bevel...& the spine still has less wear than a new Dovo..
Reblued the tang & only re-pinned the pivot leaving the wedge end intact. Used no washers as per original.
I t did have brass thrust washers tho which i cleaned & replaced.
My opinion : Way too nice a shaver to leave sitting in a glass case. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Great restoration! Winchester had a full line of knives, tools, etc in addition to their firearms.
I strop my razor with my eyes closed.

Nice piece of history there.
Below is similar to the one I had in the 70'sThe white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
