Default J.R. Torrey in Original Scales

Started sanding this one while waiting for finishing coats to dry on my last restore. I stepped up one grit a little fast (not sure which one) but you can see super fine strokes on the blade if you hold it in the light just right. Will probably fix that up when I make a new sanding block.

Original condition can be found in the following post...

    Blade:
JR Torrey 5/8 mirror finish on the blade, satin (unfinished) finish on the tang and spine. I did that on purpose, I was going for a contrasting look on the blade

    Scales:
Original plastic scales ("PATENTED AUGUST11905" stamped on one scale). scales pinned with SS washers and brass pins. Again I was going for a contrasting look...

Looks great, nice work. I've never seen scales that shape before, pretty cool.

Very nice indeed. How big is that blade? May have to keep an eye out for a similar razor - I like my small spike points and my current workhorse from that camp is getting a bit tired.

Thanks for catching that, I forgot to add the size. I updated the post with the blade size.

As for the scales, I've yet to see a manufacturer besides JRTorrey with those bumps on the scale for locking the blade closed. Maybe that is why the scale was stamped with patent information. Probably make a good travel razor with the blade lock on the scales.
