    Default Unknown Sheffield

Got this one off the Bay months ago, just liked the look of it. Tang stamp reads "extra hollow ground Sheffield". Thats all I can tell you about it.
It was in pretty bad shape with some nasty active rust on the blade. Couldnt get rid of all the pitting, so I went for a satin finish on the blade (my first real attempt at satin). Nickle silver pins and s/steel washers.
Looking forward to honing this one and seeing how she feels.

That's a great job, I can barely see that pitting, and even then I'm not sure if I'm seeing it or if it's just wishful thinking! Looks almost like new. I think it looks better with the satin finish - it provides a nice contrast to the shininess of the metal on the scales.

I would always admire original restores, but this “factory fresh” is impressive.
Hats off to you my friend.

    Beautiful.

Can you tell us how you got your satin finish. Greaseless, scotch brite wheels, sand paper,...

    Excellent job.

I've been wanting to achieve the brushed satin finish for a while but I didnt want to go spending too much money testing different products. So I bought a 60mm 120 grit flap wheel, followed by a wheel i found at work marked "very fine A/240" which was around 110mm diameter but i cut around 10mm off each flap to bring it back to 90mm to get into the extra hollow grind. Followed then by the home made scotchbrite wheel you can see in the pictue. It ended up being more of a shiney brushed finish than a satin but its not bad. I'll keep looking to improve it.
    Thanks
    Grant
