    how about sandwiching with liner and using faux pins?
    It might be too much but just an idea.

    Oh, I have ideas on how to make the scales without blemishes. The first ones were a disaster, these came close, the next ones.......? I'm hopeful!

    Heh, I figured the mirroring would come off. Do you think putting a layer of epoxy over the "inside" would work (similar to finishing wood scales)?
