    Default Fredrick Reynolds 8/8s restored

Picked this razor up prior to our last SRP meet. It wasn't too bad off except for the bug bites and rough spots in the scales and some minor rust on the blade.

Everything is original on the restore except for the scale liners and the pins/washers.

We wanted to keep this as original as possible so we decided to clean up the scales and repair the major bug bites, especially the one at the wedge that was almost all the way through. We them lined the scales with brass. The blade was sanded and polished to a near mirror finish. Pins are brass and washers are domed brass. Honed on the Nortons and finished on the CF gifted to me by Oldengaerde. Thank you Oldengaerde. JrJoeD and I test shaved with the bad boy the other day. It shaved so smooth we weren't sure it was cutting until we saw the hairs in the lather on the blade. The CF worked great and the results are perfect!! One before pic and the rest are after the restore.

What a Nice JOB Joe! You certanly are putting that Caswell buffer to good use.

I have one very similar, I think she sits in horn scales...I will have to go pull it out and look!

Haha, thats a great restore! I love those large Sheffields! One question - how do the brass liners affect the balance, or do they complement it as that blade is HEAVY!

Good observation and question. The blade is so heavy the balance point with the scales completely open is just a fraction of an inch into the end of the scales, almost where the end of the scale meets the shank of the blade. Handles nice while shaving and the weight is almost not noticeable. I like the balance where it is. Before the re-scale the blade dominated the balance.
