Harner Blank in Horn
Less than a month after my initial enquiry, my blank arrived from Butch this week! From that, to arrival in England in that time frame is fairly outstanding, so thanks very much Butch!
Today I was eager to get it into scales so it could be honed up & given it's trial run.
I used black horn with a spalted apple wedge. Photo's aren't perfect, as it's dark here, but you should get an idea.
What do you think guys?

Part surgical tool, part razor. Great looking scales for an equally great looking blade. Nice work to the both of you.

Awesome razor! Gotta watch out for that tip! It doesn't even look like a French point...more like a wharncliff.

Thanks for all the comments. Butch, you got a thank you for the great job!
Anyway, shaved with it! The point is something to be aware of! It's exactly how I wanted it. No nicks. Probably because I was exceptionally careful.
The blade itself is just under 3 1/4", with a long shank. It's 5 1/4" point to pivot. Both those measurements are significantly longer than the NOS 7/8 friodur that many of us have!
Originally I set the bevel with a DMT, then on to the coticule with thick slurry which I watered down gradually. Once it was just water, I did another 200 laps. The shave revealed that it just wasn't as keen as I'm used to, so it went to a BBW/slurry, then coticule/water, then Thuringian/water. It seems better, but I'll know better tomorrow when I've tried it.!
