John Heiffor (Army razor)
This is one of a bunch I'm restoring for Luc, one of our new members.
New scales were requested & the red marbled t/shell acrylic is always a good look on old Sheffields. Brass fittings were chosen & original pewter wedge retained.
Apparently the whole razor was as black as the scales when first purchased & somewhat difficult to clean up. I soon came to the conclusion this was some kind of Klingon/Borg, alien super steel & difficult to clean up was an understatement
I gave it a rough bevel with a DMT C to check on pitting depth at the edge & deemed it saveable so got to work.
The first 2 pics show it as I received it & the 3rd is a progress shot at 320 grit..
Any means at my disposal was really slow so just relied mostly on coarse grit hand sanding...lots of it
I've since decided a decent belt grinder is in my future
The blade is finished at about 400 grit & buffed out at the coarsest compound I have on a medium hard Scotchbrite wheel . Some Autosol & a soft buff for the final polish.
In spite of some remaining pitting, most obvious in the tang close ups, it tuned out sharp n shiny with a sound edge... I like happy endingsThe white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

That looks fantastic! He should be pleased. The scales are a great shape & you're right, the material is a good pair with that blade!

Thanked: 1072Nice work on the blade, and the scales are beautiful, good choice on the material and very slick lines.
