Default Thiers Issard- Le Gerlot B&B LE - Amboyna Burl

This one is heading home in the morning.
A standard Pink Ivory scaled Le Gerlot with the pretty much standard messed up TI scales these were actually cracked at the wedge...
Michael asked me to make a set in Amboyna Burl for him...

This is actually the 3rd set I made for this razor, I was doing some experimenting with brass liners and trying to get some to balance out...
I used .016 brass which is the most common that I see on razors and that was just way to heavy even for this razor... I tried a set in .010 brass but the burl curled up like a piece of bacon in a hot pan, I think maybe the weight might have worked but I could not test it... Now I am going to have to try with a more stable wood and see if it holds .... I will figure out a lined set that balances
Anyway after all that fun this was the third set I made, and by far the prettiest figuring of the bunch... 8 coats of Poly on top of sealer all hand rubbed in, some bi-metal washers and pins hold it together with an Ebony wedge... These razors can be fantastic shavers when they are honed correctly, I used a full set of Naniwas and finished with 10 laps of CeOx on my bench strop SMOOOOOOOOOTHNESS !!!!

Beautiful! If I had to pick one scale style and keep it for all my razors, that would be it.

very nice Glen. I see you are working on my "I don't normally care for wooden scales" position. That's very very nice looking. I bet you had a blast honing that thing

Glen, those scales are unworldly beautiful. And the shape is excatly what i wanted. Yeah, yeah on your wooden scales position. These are just too great. You and I have already agreed that the next set will not be wooden, but in the mean time I have another set of exceptionly beautiful ones.
