Thanked: 13245Dovo Special / Restore /Cocobolo
This one was a slightly rusty Dovo Special wrapped in slightly warped Tortoise scales that Jon sent me...
He decided on Cocobolo wood, then wanted the Dovo inlay transfered over...
Now on wood this a little tuff, because the CA under the inlay always shows up under the finish, if you look close enough...
So I decided to try something a bit different this time.. I put down an entire coat of CA on the wood after a Acetone wipe-down, Cocobolo is oily, so it needs it... After that dried, I sanded it down with 400 grit, then glued on the inlay...
Once that was dry, I decided to continue the CA finish which is just a series of coats then sanding (600 grit) until it comes out looking how you want (never rush this stuff) ...
Using a wipe-down of Turtlewax rubbing compound after all the sanding, works as a fine cutting compound, then a few coats of Renwax brings out the shine....
I used all brass on this razor from the wedge to the square center post to the tiny washers and pins holding it all together...
The blade itself was polished out fully, to a near perfect mirror, the tang was left satin...
The razor balances just to the front of the pivot pin....

Very nice. It looks like it was meant to be that way.

The grain on those scales makes them very special. I agree that it looks like they belong on that razor with a superb finish by Glen. The inlays just put it over the top. Great work.

Thanked: 1371Nice work Glen!
I like that you did a rounder toe on this one, between that and the choice in wood, it has a new vintage look to it that really appeals to me. Very nice.
