    Default Old Spike

As i got this little razor it looked quite bad. There was a crack in original scales, the tang had lost its original gold plating and the blade wasn't too good either.
I started with the scales. I had some sheet of green plastic from some of my previous (no razor) projects. The tone of the plastic was almost, but not exact the same as in original scales, so i decided to make temporary scales until the day i find original scales somewhere (might be that i will never see that day).

It took some time the clean the blade and tang as well, but they turned out ok. The gold plating is made with electrolysis. I've plated only some car and motorcycle parts & electronics before so this was my first razor i've ever plated. Still have to hone it and check how it shaves.
    Sorry about the poor pictures.

Very nice work! Was it some commercial plating system you used or did you tinker something yourself?

I have an old car battery charger with a possibility to adjust how much amperes to feed. It is sort of try-readjust-try again-readjust thing. I got the idea some years ago from the old Mobilisti magazine.

    Neat idea!
It'll be interesting to hear how the plating holds up to honing and shaving.
    thanks for the post.

    thanks for the post.
Gold plating is very thin so it is easy to wipe out when honing. I put one layer of tape into back of the blade when honing to prevent plating from wearing away.
