Default W. Greaves & Sons 6/8 Near Wedge in “Wedgeless” Honey Horn Scales

I was surprised by this old Sheaf Works razor because the blade looks like it has never been honed. There was some rust at the pivot and monkey tail but the blade itself was nearly perfect. On the other hand, the old blonde horn scales were bug bitten beyond repair.

I used 240 grit greaseless buffing compound on the blade to take off the rust and pitting from just in front of the pivot point back while matching the original machine marks. The only way you can tell this was done is that the buffer tends to round the corners anywhere I used the buffer.

    The scales were made from a 1/8” X 2” X 6” Honey horn blank.

I have yet to hone it.

You did a great job with that. Kudos on recreating the wedgeless scale design thereby paying homage to that vintage scale design.

That is a beautiful razor. The blade is great. The scales are more than great the built in wedge is super cool. It looks like it would be a lot of work to make scales like that.

    Thanks for the comment guys.

The hardest part was getting those two butt ends to fit together without any gap. I've found that a bad fit at the wedge ruins hours of hard work. That being the case, I spent a lot of time sanding and filing so that finally no light could shine through the mating surfaces.
