Tally Ho * F. Fenney Sheffield Warranted * Ebony
Sometimes I encounter razors that really do look beaten up with a tremendous amount of blemishes. As we all know there's a limit as to how much steel one can remove and as to the condition of the razor to start with.
Tally Ho razors don't show up very often and are known to be very good. Hence many like to collect them.
This one send by Mark was no exception and I was really very skeptical as to revive it. It looked like a dog had chewed on the razor. Dozens of extremely deep going pits and every other blemish you can dream about.
I didn't want to lose the tang stamping either. The most severe pitting was definitely on the front side of the blade and I tried to remove as much as I possibly could. I decided to give the razor a satin finish as to minimize the remaining pitting and blemishes showing up to much like a torn in the eye.
As to the scales. Ebony with a tapered yellow dino recon stone. Nickel silver pins and mix of brass and ss washers.
Another issue was trying to get the razor honed as it was pretty badly warped. Still took me about 2 hours to get a final edge on the razor.
It maybe didn't turn out to be looking like a NOS razor but at least the razor is serviceable again and ready to continue its existence.
The before pictures were taken by Mark himself.
Have a great WK

Max, you've got an eye for the diamonds in the rough, my friend. I think that Tally Ho looks like it was meant to look that way. It's elegant but with the remaining pits, it has that forged look to it.
Very nice. Thanks for sharing.

Mine! All Mine!
Max, thank you so much for your work on this razor. I never expected it to look new. You've captured the essence of the razor, with no frills or unnecessary decoration. Just a beautiful, but simple razor.

Nicely saved ! Big upsThe white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
