Shumate in Purpleheart
Hello All,
this is my first attempt at finishing scales in CA, actually 2nd set of scales ever. The truth of the matter is that when I started seeing all the nice work done by the members on this forum I did not even know what CA finish was. Thanks to the internet I was able to find out, but had no clue of the process. That is until Aquanin posted his tutorial, thank you very much for that. So these were done following Aquanin's instructions. I did make a few mistakes, but all in all I am happy with the outcome for a first attempt. The photos do not show the full depth or the glossiness of the finish. I do need to work on my peening, but the blade centers and is very tight.
Thank you for looking, and Thank You again to Aquanin.

Thanked: 172Those scales look nice. Every time i buffed mine out they got too hot and turned almost black in spots.

They look great.
A note on purpleheart. It is a UV reactive wood and turns grey with exposure. Some Wipe on Poly finishes will block the UV and keep them brand spanking new. Now admittedly this might not be an issue indoors as the UV exposure will be lessened.

Inside it is usually not an issue. The wipe on poly is also only a method to slow the introduction of UV. I've had a large piece of purple heart in my house for a few years now with no change. I wouldn't worry too much.
Btw very nice razor. I am really not a fan of purpleheart and consider it a garbage wood for most uses and I would own and appreciate that razor. Thank you for sharing.

Looks pretty good. One question though... which direction does your wedge taper (does it get small toward the razor/pivot, or small toward the wedge end)?
In your pic that shows the wedge it almost looks like it's reversed.
