Default G. Johnson, Sheffield in Ebony

This is a neat razor; a beautiful old bright-steel Sheffield wedge, and the razor of the great-grandfather of the fellow I restored it for. He wanted it done in blackwood, with the profile of the original scales. It was in pretty rough shape, but I'll let the before and after pictures speak for themselves:

Now, I wanted to save those cool little daisy washers, unfortunately those are only very, very thin brass-foil covers for normal stacked washers. The one I tried to save was destroyed, so I drilled out the other pin and let the remaining three stay on the old scales. Better to have grandfather's washers than have them destroyed in a restoration!

This is some really awesome ebony; you can't see it in the pictures but it actually has grain like curly maple. Super sweet!

    Enjoy!

Very well done restore. The razor has nice clean lines. I'm sure the owner will be very pleased!

Great work. I've only seen a couple of rescales of yours, this one and the Wade and Butcher in Walnut. Sensitive, well-finished and classic. I like, I like. Keep em coming.

Great job! too bad that pitting was so deep, I am amazed you got as much out as you did, must have been a real PITA. I am sure the owner is very happy, I know I sure would be! By the way those pins are among the nicest I have ever seen, outstanding.

Great job - I'll bet the razor will be cherished by it's owner for years to come. You should be proud of your accomplishment.

Nice work. I appreciate these restorations even more now that I know how hard it can be to shape scales, peen pins evenly, and remove greaseless scratches for a mirror polish.
