J R Torrey "Our Beauty" - Rescale #2
So I was hanging out in chat, talking with CarrieM about her favorite razors, Torrey's. I'd pointed out a few that popped up on Ebay and the classifieds recently, and what Carrie said she'd really like was a shoulderless Torrey in Ivory.
It just so happened that I have had a shoulderless Torrey sitting around that needed new scales. Since I made my first test set, I was ready to try a more "serious" project.
I headed down to the workshop after dinner, and after about an hour and a half, this is what I came up with.
The scales are called "ivory," but they look whiter to me; acrylic of course. The spacer is black acrylic, too. I modeled the scales after the original ones, and came out with a pretty close match.
Improvements over my last set include a thinner, more tapered wedge; more even beveling around the edges of the scales; and a smoother overall finish on the edges of the scales (there is still some black on the edges - buffing compound I need to clean off).
I haven't pinned her yet, because I think Carrie will want to put the blade in the ultrasonic to clean her up without damaging the writing on the blade, and maybe she'll have Joe clean up the back too. I'm holding the wedge end in the photo because microfasterers just won't snug up around the wedge.
Anyway, here are some photos.

and this is your second set of scales? You make creating scales not look very difficult at all. Congrats. I'm surprised that I am really liking acrylic scales. Really nice work.
