Joseph Elliot brass frameback in Bone
Joseph Elliot's Brass Patent Frameback.
I did clean up on this to much, kind of liked it "as is"
Scales are smooth bone and the wedge is ebony wood.
Not sure how I feel about the wedge. I wanted to do something other then bone but not sure if I like the black. I Make take it apart and redo it. What do you think.
Sorry about the low light pics, I took them this morning.
With the time change, it's tough for me to get a good pic.

very beautiful material and nice shape (great blade too by the way - i would have left it the same as you). maybe you should do a lead wedge, that may look good?

Thanked: 74Nice. I took mine down just a slightly different path, but decided to leave the blade in a similar condition. Scales are black paper micarta.
I re-used the original spacer.

Black coloured wedges were often used traditionally with bone scales. I think that looks fine. Nice job.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

That was partly the reason behind the black. I've had a good number of old bone scales that had black colored wedges. Maybe it's the shine. Since it's wood I put a coat of CA on it for protection. Maybe I'll take it apart and just use horn.
dnjrboy - That's a looker you got there. Great job.

Before you do, try rubbing the exposed area of wedge with some 1500 wetndri. It may just knock off enough of the shine to make it look congruent

I have an older Wade & Butcher that has the original white bone scales, and it has a black wedge. I think it (yours) looks very nice. A lot of people prefer a contrasting color wedge. If it were me, I'd keep it as is!
