JHenckels 401
I bought this blade off of Ebay when I first started shaving with a straight razor (February 2010). I paid way too much for it only to find it in poor condition upon arrival (my own fault for leaping before learning). With the themed SOTD going on this week, and Henckels day being Friday, I decided to spend my evenings after work getting her back to proper condition. I've not done many restorations, but with each one I try to do something different and learn something new. 2 new things with this one were CA finish & domed washers. I mocked up the entire thing prior to putting on the finish and I would swear up and down that the wedge fit better than it did upon reassembly after the finish. Other than the wedge (I'm fairly certain the wedge is Cocobolo), I'm quite pleased with the result. I'd love to tell you what wood the scales are...but all wood used was from scrap with some nice figuring to it from a box of craft wood I bought from bell forest products (if you know what kind of wood it is, I'd love to know). She is honed up and ready for tomorrow mornings shave.
A very Special thanks to Glen (GSSixgun) for answering my questions about domed washers in the restoration chat and for the many, many helpful posts & wiki articles. Also, thank you to all of the participants in the workshop forum, you gentlemen inspire me! :
