First Restore. Wostenholm IXL
Hi guys,
Thought I would share my first attempt at an overhaul. This is a Wostenholm & Sons IXL that I rescaled it in Wenge with a Cocobolo wedge. The wood is finished with Tung oil. Learned a lot trying to make the scales - can't tell you how much the stickies helped! Any thoughts/comments/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Looks good. How does it shave?

It shaves like a dream. I have become partial to Wostemholms as of late, and this is my favorite. The blade is certainly no beauty queen, but it is oh so smooth. Silent and smooth.

Great job! It looks really good for your first time. Did you hone it up yourself?

Thanks! I did hone it. The lowest grit I have is a Naniwa 3k, so it took forever to get the bevel, but after the initial leg work it took a really nice edge. It's a wedge grind, so it just silently melts through whiskers.

Thanked: 13245You really did a nice job here,
You sure did not take the easy road for sure
Wenge is a tuff wood to finish, and double wedge pins are hard to get right ...
You definitely get extra points for walk the harder path

Thanks Glen! It took me longer than I care to admit, but I wanted to get them nice and thin and I am very happy with the results. The wenge took 5 coats of oil to get to where I wanted it - I wanted to keep the open bits in the grain because I liked the look of it, but I wanted to make sure it was fully protected. I just took my time, and things came out ok. The wedge isn't perfectly flush with the inside, but it is good and tight. I am just psyched to be able to show it off!
