Last batch of steel I got from the Baron I ordered 16 pieces of steel (1 1/2 x 6 x 1/4) which he advertised as Damascus. It was only about $25 for the lot. I knew too cheap to be true but why not gamble. Well it is not Damascus and was otherwise unmarked. I think it is 1084 to make Damascus but maybe I'll never know. I heat treat like 1095. On a finished blade it has a pretty good edge but does not seem to me as good or as hard as 1095. I have 2 more blades all done and heat treated etc except for the final grind and polish. I am considering giving them away to someone who wants to practice their grinding skills. Maybe the real mystery is what I am going to do with the other 12 pieces I have left.

There must be something in the water in Texas. So many great craftsmen in many areas are there. The rest of us can be jealous and/or grateful.
Beautiful, beautiful work, Bob.

Big blade, detailed jimp placements, looks anxious when closed-horrible...that I'll never get to hold and shave it. Whaaaa

Classic style right thurr... but it needs the "For Barbers Use" etch on the blade
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Very nice razor as always, but the truth is that I couldn't shave with it. I would smile the whole time seeing that beautiful razor in the mirror.
