Joseph Elliot 5/8 in Black Striated Horn
Hi, Here for your consideration is recent restore no. 2, a 5/8 Joseph Elliot 'best silver steel' in black horn with white streaks.
This blade was in decent a condition when I got her, so all I did was some high grit sanding and polishing to bring her up to a decent shine. some minor pitting remains but its a necessary evil being a hollow grind.
The horn scales are modelled after the originals, and feature the original lead wedge. Pins are Nickel Silver, domed over tiny Stainless washers to be seamless.
She was a pig to align but I got her to almost close dead centre after a lot of washer fan dangling.
One interesting feature of this razor is the stamp on the pile side of the tang that reads, RANGOON, the former name of Yangon in Myanmar (Burma). Guessing this may have been manufactured for the British living there during the colonial period. Whatever the case a very interesting feature.
Yet to hone, but very happy with how she turned out. The streaky horn was collecting dust amongst my materials as I had never previously cared for it, but I've been brought around now by these scales.
Anyway thanks for looking!
