Wiss & Sons No. 45 restore in walnut and hard maple (pic heavy))
Hi all, this is my first restore of a J Wiss & Sons razor. I don't know too much about the manufacturer, except that they moved to the US early on, but this razor is stamped with Germany. Maybe that's something of interest, I'm not sure. Anyways, I restored the blade completely by hand, all the way up to 12k micromesh. The scales are made of walnut and they were roughly shaped with power tools, but all the fine shaping and finishing was done by hand. The wedge is made of hard maple and I finished the wood with 3 coats of swedish oil. I used this because its not a venire so the natural colour and grain of the wood was preserved. The pins are modified aluminum rivets, it was all I really had access too, so unfortunately no dedicated razor pins on her. I honed her all on a Norton 4/8k - thanks Glen for that one!!! I couldn't have done that without his video on setting a bevel with a Norton 4/8k.
Overall I'm very happy with how the razor turned out, although the wedge is a little far from the blade and I wish I could have gotten proper pins.
Enjoy the razor porn
