Cool Henckels #74 Custom Restore in Lignum Vitae

This might be my new favorite wood

    Lignum Vitae (Argentine)

    Species Name: Bulnesia sarmientoi
Species Description: Lignum Vitae (Argentine) is an exotic wood, yet is native to the West Indies and the tropical regions of the Americas. It is a very hard, dense, and heavy wood, with a fine texture. The heartwood color ranges from a dark greenish brown to black. Lignum Vitae is excellent for wood turning, as well as being used for bearings, bushings, some marine applications, and mallet heads. It has an oily to waxy character and takes a high polish.

More info on the woods called Lignum Vitae

I used a Tung Oil finish on this set, For Ryan and it worked just like I had read it would, allow 2-3 times the amount of time to dry.. This set took a good long 72 hours..
I have another set I am going to try a wipe on Poly finish with...
The grain is beautiful and very very tight.
I have only seen one maybe two razors re-scaled using this wood, but I plan on quite a few more after this set...

The blade on this one was polished out quite a bit, but the pitting was pretty deep, so a few scars still remain...
Pins are Nickel Silver and the Washers are the two sizes of SS stacked into a nice beehive dome...
I used a Gold/Green Acrylic wedge to highlight the greenish hue of the wood...
