Thanked: 32Wedge in file and stainless handle
I did a wedge blade for somebody whose wanted to build a straight but with a specific blade design. I wanted to make another one in order to see how it will shave.
I took an old file i annealed years ago, (4mm thick).
I wanted to do a 5/8 and that is thinner that what i'm used to use.
I forged a bit the tang in order to obtain somethim tappered.
18 cm long, 14 cm blade, 7,4 cm sharp. Wedge, water hardening and 180°c tempering.
Stainless handle.
I shaved myself with that one just after to complete it (just after buffering and some leather.)
The shave was efficient but that wasn't really confortable. i used my stone, and discovered that the bevel wasn't perfectly flat and don't are perfectly connected on the edge. (ultra thin but not perfect).
I reshaved myself morning with that one. The result is more or less the same. i think i have some time to work with leather on that one before to obtain something really cooooool
