I really don't have any background in anything artistic other than a drafting class in college. I didn't even have a plan on what I wanted except for a 8/8 blade & long monkey tail. It just came together as I was grinding steel. MikeBlue did a wonderful job on the heat treatment. Only thing I had to do was narrow the ball at the monkey tail when fitting the scales. With a long tail like that, you can't put in a third pin to open up the scales as the blade will come into contact with it.
What I want to know from you guys who work with horn, how do you get that final sheen on it. It's close, but not glossy & shows a bit of the grain in the horn. I finished it on 2K sandpaper, then took it to the buffer, but it didn't quite give me the shine I was looking for. Any suggestions? A coat of Renaissance was helped...but not quite there.Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper. Please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanked: 1936Thank you.
Please remember that all of the razors I have made to date have been made with roughly $200 worth of tools. You don't have to have all of the fancy tools to be creative. The scales were rough cut with a dremel and finished with sanding blocks and sandpaper, followed by buffing them. I do have a real grinder in the works, but it's not that it's necessary...it will just make it easier for me to make what I want & much quicker.Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper. Very nice work and attractive design. I'm not surprised that the 1095 gave a good shave. Keep them coming.
