    Default Baldy in unknown timber

One of the other Brisbane boys asked me to give this one a set of new scales. The blade was is good nick but the horn scales were had it.
The scales are made from a timber that I used to know the name of, the wedge is ebony with brass pins and stacked stainless, brass washers.

The razor is to be a gift and the notch is to showcase the word 'BALDY' when the razor is closed.

I can't identify the wood either. Very cool look though. The grain is awesome and I like how you can read the tang even with the blade closed!
    Great work!

Very nicely done. Gotta find me one of those Baldy blades.

Great looking razor, could you tell me this, i've seen a few razors with that small recess on the scales by the tang is this a new design feature creeping in with straight razors, if so what's it called, I must admit to having a particular liking for it.

Jamie, not sure if the notch has an official name. I found it was the only way to display the name of the razor whilst closed. I wasn't sure if the scale strength would hold up after the notch was removed ......... thankfully it worked out okay.

Thanks Stu, this could be your claim to fame, why not give the notch a name? you never know in the future we could be refering to it as the Stu notch.

    regards Jamie

LOL. Jamie, I cant take credit. I think Undream was first when he posted a groovy green masterpiece last week with a notch for a rubber grip. Worth a look.

Nice job, Stu. I'm usually ambivilent about wood scales, but these definately caught my eye.
Like you said, I think that the notch near the piviot was normally used to make room for a rubber grip, but it works great on this set.
