Thread: Australian Razor

Well finally finished a few razors that i have been working on for a while. Here is the first.
CPMS30V wedge, stub tail, jimped on top of tang and thumb notch below. Honey Buffalo horn with mosaic pins, torx pivot and black acrylic wedge.

Totally my fave of the ones you've just posted. I love the shape and the clean lines. If I had a lot of money, I'd ask you to sell it to me. What's the colouring around the pins, though?

Like the shape of the blade on this one, Adam. It is hard to make out, what are the white areas around the pins?

That colouring is a failure. The horn delaminated around the pins {actually posted a question about that on the workshop forum} do not know why. It has never happened to me with black horn. My best guess is this is actually ox horn {not the "buffalo" it was marketed under} and the different structure is not as stable. It is so little you can't feel it, but unfortunately it is very visible.

This is blond Ox horn and extremely prone to delaminating. Nice shape of the razor and I really like those jumps too.

Are the jimps hand cut or were they indexed on a table? They look very uniform. I like the jimps.

All jimps, thumb notch and monkey tail were shaped by hand with files. a grinder was used to profile the blade and create the wedge. Then hand rubbing with wet dry paper through 320, 400, 600, 800,1200, 1500 & 2000 grit.
