hey guys! First off, I'm not entirely sure if this is the right section to post this thread in or not (if not then sorry feel free to move it). I have been shaving with a straight razor for about a year or two now and (when time permits) it is my most preferred way to shave for all the reasons that I'm sure you guys know too well. I have had it in my mind for some time now to get a 7 day set but the price has been prohibitive (at least until I was sure I was going to make this a permanent thing). I think that I might be ready to make the investment but obviously that is only have the decision. I am curious what you guys think would be a good set and/or company to go with. I think that I would like something that is eye appealing and unique but durability and functionality are by far the most important things for me. I have the somewhat romantic notion that these razor may be heirlooms that would be in the family for generations. The idea that my great grandson might one day shave with these is really very cool I think.

My general feeling is that SS will last longer than carbon steel and that wood, although beautiful, may not hold up as long as bone? I know that MOP gets brittle over time and I'm not sure that plastic is the stuff that heirlooms are made of. What are your suggestions? Also, this is likely a question for the company that I end up working with but has anyone heard of buying a set one razor at a time or maybe through layaway. I'm not exactly rich so some sort of creative payment method could be helpful. thanks for your thoughts!
