Default Dovo Special 1516 restored in oak scales

    Hi all,

as this is my first restore, please feel free to give your comments.

The original scales were plastic I think (definitely not an animalproduct) and weren't looking pretty in my opinion. So I decided to change them into oak ones.

I think this razor is before 1953 when I look at the stamp from Dovo.
    Or am I mistaken?

I would like to thank Bruno for sending me some brass rod and washers to give it a try! It was well worth the effort.

Forgot to mention this is a 6/8 blade.

Excellent work! Be sure to rub it in some tung oil or something similar to prevent water spotting and give it a light sheen.

Very nice! Where did you buy the scales and the pins?

    Thanks!

@ Slur: I've had a large piece of oak lying around in the garage that I used to make the scales. So they are handmade by me. The pins and washers were a 'gift' from Bruno, because it was my first time pinning a razor.

I think you did a really nice job on this razor. It's unbelievable that it's actually your first restore. You did a nice job with your pinning, and included a third pin as well. Really nice job on the blade too.

Did you use anything to finish the wood in any way?

Thank you for the kind words.

I haven't used anything yet to finish the wood, because I had no idea what to use (oil, wax,...)

It's a very clean and well executed first restore and re-scale. Not bad at all for your first.

    Well done!

    *proficiat zou ik zeggen.

Very nice, only improvement I can think of is like Maxi suggested impregnating the wood with oil. I know my friend Leo De Brouwer (who wrote a book on straight razor shaving in Dutch) uses a pressure cooker for this but I don't know what kind of oil he uses. greets Ron
