Default Restoration #2 -Joseph Elliot's Best Silver Steel in Wavey Bone w/Tortoise Spacer

Here is my second clean up and custom scales. The bone is giraffe and the spacer is Tortoise shell that I had from broken scales. The pins are one sided pre-made nickle with brass washers.

The blade is a Joseph Elliot's Best Silver Steel Full Hollow 13/16. I only did a glossy satin finish on this one, I think it looks better than a high polish mirror. The bone was a pain in the ass to work with and it stinks to high heaven. I think I will avoid this again for a little while. There are a couple finger prints on the blade.

BEFORE: both sides same condition. No scales.

After some buffing and polishing 180-240-400-600-emery

Comments are welcome and appreciated. I can use some good criticism to help gain experience. Thanks

Next up I think I am going to clean up a John Elliot's Celebrated 3/4 Wedge, set in either buffalo horn or amboyna burl.

Giraffe bone is a great media to work with. Very hard once it is stabilized and has great grain pattern. Wearing a respirator is key. BTW, it doesn't smell as bad as horn does!!! Nice job!!

You know that would look amazing with some scrimshaw on it. Looks great now, but with all that surface area some scrim would really bring it home..I saw a fellow who did a scrimshaw on a handle jsut last week on a thread here. Maybe he will pop his head in?

    Thanks.

I cant get over the burning enamel smell. I hate the dentist, and that smell makes me think of drilling teeth. The mask is a huge help. Horn I found to be tolerable but smelly, the odor fades faster than bone IMO. I do know that I will be doing my next razor will be in Amboyna burl, got a nice piece for a great price.

Scrim is out of my league, but a great idea.

I saw a nice work CTKnife did with a laser. I am unsure of the cost of something like that, but I have some ideas that I would consider.

Amboyna burl smells fantastic when sanded. I wish they had a soap with it!!!!! I just sanded some tonight!
