    Default A gift for Larry.

Larry Andreassen (LarryAndro of Whippeddog.com) and myself have become friends. Everyone who knows Larry knows that he has one razor in particular he values above all the rest... His beloved 6/8 W.S. Brown.
Recently I was browsing ebay, and I found an auction advertised as a "W.S. Brown Special". The razor wasn't pretty, but that is just my cup of tea. I bid on the razor knowing I was going to restore it and send it to Larry so he would have a suitable back-up for his trusty razor.

The auction title was a little misleading, the vintage box is a true W.S. Brown Special, but the razor is marked "Blue Steel Special". Larry insists that the razor is so close in shape to his W.S. Brown that he thinks it could have been made by Brown.

Here are some of Larry's words about it: "As for the razor, even though not labeled W.S. Brown, it is so close to that razor in shape that I suspect it is a W.S. Brown. Even though the vintage case is a little beat up, it is really cool have a W.S. Brown case that goes with my razor."

Anyway, I just wanted to share Larry's new 2nd-in-command.

Most worthy endeavor for sure. I think it's wonderful you are doing that for a really good guy!

I also believe that special is what you believe it to be. I think that is the correct box for that razor. It's the 'Special' that makes me believe it is a Brown.

Too cool man. Larry will love that. Nice to give something back.

Way to go! That's the kind of thinking around here that I appreciate.

I was stunned by the gift from UPD. Surprised that he remembered my razor, and even more surprised that he found anything with W.S. Brown on it. I have yet to see another W.S. Brown.

Some time back, I sold the razor to someone. They returned it after one shave, and said they lacked sufficient dexterity. So, I tried it once. That was it! Occasionally, I shave with another razor, but have to force myself to do it. And, I feel dirty, adulterous!

A picture of the trusty Ol WS Brown is attached. Oil not cleaned off. Sorry...

It would be interesting to know definitively why guys like their razors. For me, it is the balance of the scales and blade first and foremost. Secondarily, this razor talks quietly with me while shaving. It breathes words of days gone by, telling tales of smooth manly faces and beautiful women.

Mike is a great guy! Like so man others, and in fact all you guys here on SRP. It's been a few good years here.
