its actually easier to use the sander to round a block of wood. At least for me. I drill a hole in the top and glue in a wooden dowel with a handle on the end and hold onto that. That frees up my other hand to control the pressure of the wood against the sander and just keep turning it and apply an even pressure. It doesn't take long and if you apply an even pressure you'll get it perfectly round. Once its round I simply cut off the dowel and then drilled the hole for the bristles. This is important, drill the hole for the bristles BEFORE you do your final shaping on the sanding drums. A wood lathe is one of the few tools I don't own and this is the poor man's answer. A wood turner that I know told me it is possible to stick the end of that wooden dowel into a drill and let the drill turn it and use some cutting tools to shape it. I might try that sometime in the future.
