Thanked: 2Alfred Williams (Sheffield 1 of 2) first restore attempt
Hi, I got these two Alfred Williams for my first restore attmept including new scales, pining, second honing attempt.. I feel I learnt alot in the process, it was all hand done apart from hand drilling the pin holes.. even the sawing was hand done which put my arm out of action for several hours as trying to hold down the horn blank on a round table and saw testing my tendons to the max!!
I posted a post regarding scales thickness a short time ago as I thought 2mm maybe too thin, but the consensus was give it a go so I did.. Even though the scale shape had to change to fit in the wedge I'm still happy with the results... the scales have a nice transparent amber colour when held to the light which sadly you can't see in the photos - They are buffalo horn and camel bone wedge
I honed it up also and was my first semi successful attempt at honing, though I have some questions on this I best ask them in the honing section..she shaved but I think should be sharper/smoother?
Can anyone please advise as to whether this is a quater hollow as I'm still new to razors and don't have a whole lot to compare..
Comments and critiques welcome, thanks for looking.. I look forward to doing up the other one!

I don't know why no one has responded to this post. Very nice razors. The first picture, to me anyway, is what is classed as a 'near wedge'. It has hardly no grinding to speak of. I have several. They are usually great shavers too.
Great job! They appear very utilitarian and I would be happy to add them to my collection were they mine.
Thanks for posting them up!!
M-- Any day I get out of bed, and the first thing out of my mouth is not a groan, that's going to be a good day --

Thank you for your kind comments, much appriciated.. since taking those pics I took it back to the hones as first shaver was ok but I thought could be better and got it to finally pass the HHT and a great shave.. Once I have made scales for the other one I'll post them both up...

I know why I didn't respond. I was on my way to work, fighting with the wife or something. Good excuses right? No not really. I was reading and looking and have to say this is really good work. For a first attempt you must be thrilled by the finished results. In the 3rd pic down I can see the translucence, cool, i bet it looks better in person.
Honing has a lot to do with feel, I check my hone jobs with 7 to 10 power eye loupes. Knives and razors.
