6/8 Sheffield Silver Steel in Wood with bone inlay
I finished this some time ago but could not be bothered to make pics until now.
The blade was a generic 6/8 Sheffield blade. It had cracked scales so I just ripped them off.
Sanded and polished the blade. It had quite a bit of hone wear. I tried to remove some, but at the edge it resurfaced.
I would have had to do some serious regrinding to get rid of it, but it was already fairly thin.
For the scales I wanted to do bone inlay. The back of the scales is a very thin strip of maple.
The redwood is meranti. The bone is just cow bone. I'll discuss the inlay in the workshop in more detail.
The bone is laid into the wood, and doesn't stick out. It's covered by enough layers of CA that the scales feel like a single continuous surface.
The wedge is also made from bone.
