    Default Mop Brass Higgins

Man nice work here! Seems I always have to follow threads like the Apex Predator(Sweet! ) but here goes!

I got this nice set of scales a long while back on that auction site with an old Barber blade. Got it for a song because the seller would not accept paypal and no one bid! Sent a check! The blade was not proper for the scales IMO and had deep corrosion on the back. I have finally decided to fix it up and get it shaveworthy by disassembling, cleaning and polishing, and installing a big Higgins Celebrated blade using Babur's domes and reinforced collars sized to bottom on the brass liners. Interesting scale construction here. The brass was milled out to accept the Mop, which was pinned in. The brass runs all around both scales, thus protecting the shell. As I disassembled it, everything was very tight and solid. The tang was quite pitted on the Higgins so I just polished it up to save the tang stamp but the blade is very nice as is. It pinned up super tight and the heavy blade makes balance right as well!
Nice old Sheffield, I think! Thanks for looking .......Tom

It turned out really great! What are your plans for the John Barber blade, its still in nice shape, considering it is almost 200 years old.

I don't know. There's a huge crater in the middle of the pitting on the back of it.
